Peterborough is a cathedral city in the East of England, with a population of 161,800 as of 2007 in the county of Cambridgeshire.
Peterborough is 75 miles north of London, and has excellent public transport links to most areas in the UK.
Peterborough has a main line railway station with frequent services to and from Kings Cross Station in London linking directly to St Pancras International for the Euro Service to Belgium and France. To the north the railway has direct links for Doncaster Newcastle and Scotland.
By road Peterborough is ideally located just off the A1 and A1(M) running from London to Edinburgh with the A47 servicing the East to West traffic or for linking up to the A14 to the M6 & M1 for the North and South West.
Peterborough first became a settlement in the bronze age and later a Roman Settlement, the magnificent cathedral was built in the 12th century on the site of the former Abbey built in the Saxon period.
Historically Peterborough's main Industry was brick making, to day Peterborough lays on the edge of the Fens with the river Nene flowing through its centre. it has become the centre in the east of England for Passports- Postal Services and industry alike. Industry in Peterborough still includes some brick making along with Perkins Diesel Engines, Fabrication, Warehousing, Television Shopping Channel Studios, etc.
